If you’re a fan of President Barack Obama and the First Lady, you will be pleased to know there is a new romantic film about the famous couple that is playing at Sundance. “Southside With You” is a about a day in 1989 when the single Obamas–he was 28, she was 26–go to a Chicago community organizing meeting; they both were colleagues at a law firm. Was it a date? An informal outing? A profession-related get-together? All of the above?
This is director Richard Tanne’s first feature film; he also wrote the script. The young Barack is played by Parker Sawyers (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Monsters”) and Michelle Obama (then going by her maiden name of Robinson) by Tika Sumpter (“Ride Along 2,” “The Haves and the Have Nots”). “Southside,” having its world premiere at Sundance with additional screenings, has good chances to lock in a distribution deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. –CESAR ARREDONDO
