THE FEST
Sundance is the world's preeminent independent film festival. After covering the fest for Ahora Utah, the now-defunct Spanish publication of the Salt Lake Tribune, I decided to keep on covering Sundance and highlighting Latino films, directors, stars, actors, and other talents and all things Latino.
THE JOURNOBLOGGER
I am a freelance
journalist with
more than a
decade of
experience
working for
Spanish- and
English-language
and bilingual
media outlets,
covering
immigration,
education, arts,
culture, Latin rock, activism and hard news.
I have covered Latinos and other communities for outlets such as: the dailies La Opinion and Hoy; the weeklies Wave Community News Papers, Excelsior of Orange County, Mi Estrella of Ventura County, La Prensa of the Inland Empire, Ahora Utah and the California Crusader News; and Latino Leaders Magazine.
Also, I have freelanced for English-language dailies like the Orange County Register, the Press-Enterprise of the Inland Empire, and the Ventura County Star.
La Opinión, the largest Spanish-language newspaper in the US, hired me to launch its weekly youth entertainment supplement La Vibra.
Other outlets I have worked for are the Internet sites Amigos805.com, Rocketeria.com and LatinoWeeklyReview.com, the radio station KPFK 90.7 FM and television station KWHY-22.
My works have won three Best of the West journalism awards for the coverage of the Sundance Film Festival and the Occupy movement in Utah, and another prize from the National Association of Hispanic Publications for coverage of education.
I am the founding president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the nation's largest professional group of Latino reporters.
