Latino filmmakers at Sundance are always ready to get social. Always. On Jan. 25, there are plans for them to do it “royally”– that is how the organizers of an annual Latino event are pitching their pachanga. Latino Filmmakers mixer “A Royal Social Affair” will take place Monday from 2:30 to 7 p.m. during the festival at the “Power & Industry-Indie Lounge” on Main Street–the party heart of both Park City and the fest. This is the second edition of the mixer. “The success of our event last year was proof that what we’re doing is in demand and very important to Latino creators and talent,” said Maylen Calienes, founder of Latino Filmmakers.

“A Royal Social Affair” is co-hosted by Hispanicize, a national event that brings together Latino bloggers and other media entrepreneurs. “Our growing presence in this signature initiative created by Maylen Calienes and Latino Filmmakers is all about bringing attention to underrepresented Latinos in the film industry,” said Manny Ruiz, founder of Hispanicize. According to Calienes, the networking mixer will spotlight Latino filmmakers to support their presence in Hollywood, with special emphasis on those presenting their works at Sundance. This year, the festival presents films from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay, most in competition, some just holding their premieres here.
